About Us

In 1948, John and Frances Longberry embarked on an adventure. They had raised their children and were living a comfortable life. Yet they decided to move to Findlay and start a painting business.

They opened a retail store specializing in Benjamin Moore paints, wallpaper, and picture framing. John managed a number of paint crews over the years that did commercial as well as residential painting.

Their son, Bob, served our country as a mechanic in Japan during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Findlay briefly before deciding to attend the Ray-Vogue School of Design in Chicago.

Eventually, he and his wife, Fran, returned to Findlay to handle the family business. Over the years, their four children contributed to the business in different capacities; some in painting, some putting in time at the store.

The youngest son, Todd, came home from college and decided to begin his career in painting with his dad. When his father was ready to retire, Todd bought the business from him and continued on his career path.

The founders of this flourishing business took a chance at a time when there were several other paint stores in the downtown area. They were able to not only establish themselves but also thrive in this arena.

Much of their success was attributed to their perseverance, hard work, and dedication. In addition, the customer service and quality of the products they sold reinforced their success in the community. For over 70 years, three generations of Longberrys have carried and recommended Benjamin Moore Paints, as well as quality wall coverings and innovative Hunter Douglas window treatments.
